  • Update: Dunedin Route Changes

    • We are making our Dunedin General Waste service safer and more sustainable, and therefore we are making changes to some of our routes.

A notification email or text has been sent if your area has been affected by these changes.

If you have any questions regarding this day change, please contact our team through the Contact Us page.

  • Update: Dunedin City Council kerbside service

    • You may be aware that Dunedin City Council (DCC) is introducing rates-funded kerbside waste collections for most households. This will take effect from 1 July 2024 and will include general waste, recycling, glass, food waste and an additional opt in garden waste service.

As a result, WM New Zealand will no longer be offering a monthly or advanced payment plan from 1 July 2024. There will be no changes to your service until then.

You may still need an additional general waste bin to supplement the council’s fortnightly collection.

From 1 July 2024, we’re pleased to launch PayAsUGO – a weekly collection where you can pause your service and only pay for the collections you need.

What do you need to do?

      • If you want to keep your bin, you’ll need to sign up for PayAsUGO on our website from 1 June. We’ll email you a reminder with the details closer to the time.
      • If you won’t need your bin after 1 July, do nothing. Your last collection will be during the week of the 24th of June, and we’ll email you about final collection and bin removal dates.

Whichever option you choose, any prepaid unused services will be refunded to your last known bank account or credit card in May. If you have already received this refund, contacted us about cancellation, or discontinued your service with us, please disregard this notice.

  • Dunedin City Council kerbside service FAQs

    • Will WM New Zealand continue to service residential general waste wheelie bins after July 2024 when the Dunedin City Council has introduced new services?

Yes, WM New Zealand has proudly provided weekly waste collections in Dunedin for more than a decade and will continue to offer these services on demand, beyond July 2024. This new PayAsUGO service will be available from 1 June. We’ll update this page soon on how you can sign up. In the meantime, visit our website to learn more about PayAsUGO here.

    • Can I continue using my WM New Zealand bin for general waste after the Council service starts in July 2024.

Yes, but you will need to sign up online for our new PayAsUGO payment plan from 1 June. We will continue collecting your waste from your 140L or 240L bin. Alternatively, if you require a bin exchange simply select the desired bin size during sign up and we’ll take care of that for you.

    • The upcoming DCC kerbside collection will not cover my area. Will WM New Zealand help with my general waste collection?

You can check your address details on the council website here. From 1 June you can also check our website to see if we service your area. You can keep your existing bin, or we’ll send you a new one. We’ll be in touch soon to let you know the details and where you can sign up.

    • I have already paid for services beyond 1 July 24 and no longer wish to use my WM New Zealand services. What do I do?

Nothing. We’ll contact you about your final collection and bin removal soon. If you wish to cancel before the week of 24 June, contact us here.

We’ll automatically process refunds for any unused prepaid services. You may have already received this payment.

    • I have cancelled my service, what will be the date of my final collection?

We’ll be in touch in June (via text/email) to let you know the exact date of your final collection and bin removal. Make sure you check your junk email for this or contact us if you have changed your mobile number.

    • I want to cancel my service now

As usual, customers can provide 30 days’ notice and request a service cancellation at any time. Should you wish to cancel, please submit your request here.

    • I don’t want to continue my regular collections with WM New Zealand, what other options do you provide?

FlexiBins can be purchased online or in-store through participating retail stores. Fill up your FlexiBin in your own time and then book a collection when you are ready. Or if you have a large amount of waste to move in a short space of time, a skip delivery can also be booked online.

    • When will I receive my new council bin?

We do not have any information regarding the new council rates funded service. Please refer to the
Dunedin City Council website or send your inquiries through to the following:
