A new approach to glass recycling
As we advised our customers in November, Waste Management will stop collecting glass in mixed recycling collections in Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty from Thursday March 1.
Why did we do this?
Glass can contaminate other recyclable materials.
Glass collected in mixed recycling often breaks and contaminates other recyclable materials. As a result, a lot of the glass collected in mixed recycling now goes to landfill, along with all the other materials in the bin that it contaminates. Read more
Bins for Better Communities initiative
Waste Management is changing how it collects and manages glass for recycling in Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty.
This reflects our desire to increase recycling volumes, improve safety for our team, divert more recyclable materials from landfill and make recycling more sustainable in the future.
As part of this move we are also supporting a new initiative, Bins for Better Communities, where participating schools and community groups will be paid for recyclable glass collected from purpose-built bins on their premises.... Read more
